My customer has a laser-cutting bench with XY table for the work piece. He wants to pulse the laser at a rate proportional to the vector speed at which the beam moves along the work piece. Currently he uses a DMC4143 to control the XY table. Is there a way of bringing out the TN value from another axis (the configuration of those axes used is DC Servo. If Stepper pulses were available that would have possibilities.

Maybe I could connect a motor to the tangent axis and tune it for the desired response, then use one channel of its encoder signal as my pulse driver?

Hi wweber,

If you have an extra axis that is available, you could use the STEP/PWM output for that axis to output a PWM signal to a laser. Each axis can output either a +/-10V motor command signal, or PWM/Step and Direction signal. You would configure this axis to be a tangent axis with TN, and then use the PWM/STEP output. What type of PWM signal does the laser require, specifically what is the frequency?
